Feelin' the Blues - January 1, 2008

Frugal Fashionista caught Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker rocking a pair of peeptoe heels in the must-get hue of the season, and I've since been pining for a pair of my own. Lucky girl that I am, I've spotted several that are beyond drool-worthy and affordable too!

I think I may actually be in love with this 'Damsel' wedge from Charles by Charles David ($135). The bow detail on the side, the shiny patent leather, the rich blue hue - it's the perfect splash of color for vintage dresses and a 40s-inspired touch to dress up jeans and tees.

I am all about the covered platform this season and the 'Jo' platform slingback from Hale Bob ($89.24) is just adorable! The chain detail at the top of the toe is so smart-looking, a nice contrast to the metallic, "party over here" blue color!
Hello lover! I'm not usually of a fan of fashion by non-fashion designers so I was reluctant to admit that I actually liked the 'Jamela' pump by Jessica Simpson ($88.95) but dammit if it isn't one sexy shoe!

Sometimes I feel like something simple and elegant, and other times I crave something deliciously different but equally spectacular. This navy blue 'Joy' T-strap from rsvp ($64.95) is the best of both worlds and it's wickedly sexy to boot!

Bonne Année ! - January 1, 2008

Happy New Year from Style Goodies!

May you all have a blessed, prosperous, safe, and stylish 2008!

All Myne

We were so much more honest as children, no? When we loved something, we claimed it - and weren't ashamed to do so. Everything was "Mine, mine, mine!" from the Cap'n'Crunch to the California Dream Barbie. So it should come as no surprise that as adults we're still infatuated with all things delicious and beautiful, like yummy little dresses from Myne.

Designer Ashley Ann is the mind behind Los Angeles-based label Myne, a collection of delectable frocks and tops that are as sweet as they are bewitching. Offering flow-y silhouettes in silky fabrics or soft cotton blends, the pieces are playful and flirty enough for day (think softly-sheer Coco, pictured left, or the darlingly puffed-sleeved Roxanne dresses), with a healthy dose of sophistication to turn heads at night (pick the ultra mini Dawn dress or pair the Joy blouse with trousers).

And when your girlfriends come over to borrow something amazing before you all hit the town, tell them with absolutely no shame, "This is Myne - you can get your own at Revolveclothing.com!"

Urban Princess

Urban Outfitters is the go-to place for runway-inspired knockoffs, reconstructed vintage finds, and deliciously unique and edgy, layerable pieces - all at incredibly affordable prices. But there is also a softer side to U.O. It's sweet and feminine and even a little princess-y.

The unexpected hint of Chantilly lace on this cropped cardigan add just the right amount of sweetness. Kimchi & Blue Chantilly Cardigan, $88

The name of this shoe label (Fairytales are True) is so perfectly charming and the scalloped patent trim is surprisingly girly - though the shoes are modeled after men's. Fairytales are True Spectator Ballet, $38 This is a winning combination of lace, ruffles, and satin, but it's not too precious, especially paired with contrasting tights. Free People Gauze Fiesta Dress, $148

How perfect is this shade of bubble gum pink? The ultimate princess collar! Plus the Peter Pan color and full skirt make it flawless. Peel Daydream Dress, $119.99
This necklace is so whimsical and charming - an appropriate final touch for a sweet ensemble. Take Flight Lucky Necklace, $18

Leave it to Urban Outfitters to have a lace pattern printed on this princess pink, silk scarf - so pretty. Silk Lace Printed Scarf, $28

Bob's Your Uncle

Bob's your uncle: a British phrase which means "everything's fine."
Bob's Your Uncle: a Boston, Massachusetts-based card company founded by a very clever English couple who offer a generous helping of cheekiness in the form of luggage tags, greeting cards, disposable coasters, and more. Check out my favorites:

Lugging my bags through LAX is certainly not my idea of a good time, but these luggage tags almost make it fun! I'm really into the 'Schlep' tag.

These disposable bookmarks are just about the cutest. With words like 'Unputdownable' and 'I Cried' you'll know exactly which books you loved the most.
Who couldn't use file folders that tell them exactly where they are on a project? When in doubt, choose the 'Limbo' folder!

Undesigned Clothing

"Un" is a contradicting prefix that can turn a perfectly wonderful words into something not so great - unhappy, unreliable, unrequited. So you'd think that undesigned clothes would be unfinished rags of fabric with a devil-may-care structure and zero aesthetic appeal . Instead, Undesigned by Carol Young is not only flawlessly finished, it is wholly unpretentious and completely fetching.

The Los Angeles designer explores various textures and shapes to create pieces that are functional (a flattering pair of gauchos has enormous, hands-warming pockets) and unique (said pockets are flipped on the outside of the pant, like a stylish update on an 80s fanny pack). The collection is undeniably original and each piece is clean and unfussy. Plus she mixes bamboo denim, organic and recycled knits, and other eco-friendly materials with snuggly wools and luxurious silks, then donates every last scrap of unused fabric to local children's art programs. How unbelievably unselfish!

Faith + Fashion

Fashion is an expression of who you are -- countless style stars have uttered this sartorial mantra and millions more swear by it. For women of faith who want to express their fashion sense, but remain true to their belief in God, Deeply Rooted is truly heaven-sent.

"Deeply Rooted was born of the desire to combine cute, fashionable tees with Christian/Spiritual themes to inspire, uplift, and encourage the young women of today to wear items that represent who they are in Christ," creator/designer Lauri Williams says. "Deeply Rooted Apparel is here to help them accomplish this goal without sacrificing style."

With verses from Psalms and John 3:16, and slogans like "So Loved," "Made in HIS Image," and "Peace & Blessings," these stylish (and so comfy) T-shirts, tanks, and jackets are deeply original, and the long-awaited answer to many women's prayers. Pair the new So Loved Tunic with the season's must-get wide-leg trousers, heels, and an oversized clutch; or wear one of the many short sleeve tees with jeans and a fierce pair of boots.

Right now Deeply Rooted Apparel is offering 20% through Christmas, so you can give some wonderfully unique person an equally wonderful gift this holiday! And don't forget about your guy - Deeply Rooted Apparel has tons of styles for men too!

Bill Blass - Som Kind of Glamour

There's no glamour like the Peter Som kind of glamour - it's perfectly youthful and understated at the same time - so it's no surprise that his first collection for sartorial giant Bill Blass is nothing short of spectacular. The pre-fall collection was unveiled on Wednesday. Have a look:

Who, What, Where?

Los Angeles - This news just thrills me! Women's contemporary label Foley + Corrina has arrived! The 1,000-square-foot space opened on Tuesday on the same stretch of Melrose that houses Marc Jacobs, Marni, and Diane von Furstenberg. The eight-year-old brand has wholesaled in L.A. since its inception, and sold in stores such as Fred Segal, but this is the first Foley + Corrina boutique on the West Coast. The space is absolutely stunning, including custom-made blue wallpaper with huge silver angels emblazoned on it. Expect to find the same vintage-inspired leather handbags and ultra-feminine apparel as the Manhattan locations.

New York - Designer Adam Lippes has opened up his first store in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. Located at 678 Hudson Street, the 2,500-square-foot store is simply called Adam, and houses a full range of women's and men's apparel, as well as select accessories. You'll find Nancy Gonzalez clutches, home goods, books, fine art, and a few home furnishings. The store also features a nod to the Queen of Television with a "What Would Oprah Say?" sculpture displayed behind the register.

Everywhere - Blue Cult is making a domestic comeback after two years of silence. The denim bellwether will be sold at a more moderate price this time around - a mere $89 compared to the $150+ price tag it carried several years ago. The collection will include 15 styles, and possibly an updated version of the Gwyneth jean (named for Gwyneth Paltrow), the brands most popular fit. Designer Frank Melachy told WWD, "It's hard selling $150 jeans anymore. The consumer is looking for a premium product at a lower price." You got that right, Frankie boy!

Your handbag - she's done so much for you and asked for so little in return. You've loaded her up, way beyond capacity and she didn't whine as she clutched your valuables with every thread in her stitching. She held on for dear life when you left her on the roof of your car for two whole blocks (okay maybe you've never done that, but I have). After everything you've put her through, the least you can do is keep her clean and safe when you go out.

Hook your sweet little girl up with a super-clever Stylagio ClipChic purse hook. Savvy fashionista Anne R. designed the durable little hooks to be compact (they're smaller than your average compact mirror), lightweight (each hook is only 3 ounces), strong (they can hold up to nine pounds), and stylish (you can choose from ten candy colors including Blueberry Mist, Juicy Plum, and Black Licorice). Rochelle! Rochelle!

I've never actually adapted to the 'California casual', jeans-and-tees look. In fact, I never even tried conforming. Lucky me, because my defiance is rewarded with luxuriously soft jersey dresses and vintage-inspired frocks from Los Angeles fashion designer Rochelle Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is a master at creating designs that are somehow sweet and sexy at the same time - adding charming details like bows and tiny buttons to a backless dress that is the most scandalous shade of red, or adorably puffed sleeves to a black minidress. In delicious colors and prints, the easy-to-wear pieces look perfectly pretty with flip flops (an L.A. staple) or Ferragamos, and they're honest-to-goodness comfy - 'California casual' comfy.

B.L.D.

B.L.D. While many of us may be contemplating breakfast, lunch, and dinner when we see these three letters, our thoughts could soon revolve around sterling silver, 14K gold, and natural gemstones thanks to Bridget Lynne Designs, a collection of wildly feminine, handcrafted jewelry.

Designer Bridget Lynne Nielsen artfully combines mother of pearl with jade, glass with gold, or marbled wood with rose quartz to satisfy the most stylish women's cravings for uniquely beautiful earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. Every tasty morsel of gold, sterling silver, Swarovski crystal, quartz, and pearl is made to order by Bridget herself. And don't worry if you've got a healthy appetite for fashion- every piece is surprisingly affordable so you can fill up on delicious nuggets of sparkling stunners. The jewelry is delivered fresh from Canada, so you'll want to put your order in right away...just food for thought.

Arm Candy

Rifling through my jewelry box I've discovered that I am in dire need of more bracelets. I have plenty of necklaces and a ton of earrings, but not nearly enough bracelets. Since it is the season of giving, I'm putting together a holiday wish list, chock full of the most fabulous bracelets and bangles I can find, with the hope that someone will love me enough to bequeath me with at least one (or five) of my favorites.

Ron Herman

Seems everything at Ron Herman is delicious, and these gorgeous pieces are no exception! The Marni Two-Tone Fabric Link Bracelet (l) is dramatic and bold and the Leila Gold and Leather Bracelets (r) are the perfect sprinkle of candy color.

Intuition
I just adore the three tones of this Metallic Bangle Set (l), especially all three stacked together, and the Kenneth Jay Lane Animal Print Bracelet with Crystal Centers (r) is a flawless meeting of wild youth and sophisticated glamour.

Tar-jay
Target is the one store that never disappoints - most everything is so stylish and affordable. The gold and orange Painted Speckle Inlay Bangle (l) would look so pretty and vibrant against the season's requisite neutrals, and the Sterling Silver Modern Loop and Ball Catch Bracelet is somehow dainty and bold.

Out of Hand Boutique
There is nothing I don't love from this site, and the edgy, rocker-chic look of the Pyramid Stud Bracelet (l) and over the top prettiness of the Flower Cuff Bracelet (r) are just two of the pieces I'm infatuated with.
